My interest for music started when I was about 12. Someone gave me an old tape recorder. I rigged it to our home stereo to record music off the radio. I remember being bothered by the commercials so I started editing them out using the pause function. It started with general "top 40" tracks, but soon moved to soul and "disco". The DJ's I remember on the radio were Shep Pettibone, DJ Animal and the legend Tony Humphries.

I soon started hanging around a couple of local DJ's and caught the fever. I joined my first DJ crew, Imaginary Sounds(1981). We didn't make much money but sure partied a lot and gained an appreciation for the art of mixing. I was off to college(Rutgers 1983) and met up with DJ Darren Mcghee from Scotch Plains who turned me on to the deep soulful sounds of Double Exposure, Eddie Grant, First Choice, etc. I attended many Black Frat parties and really gained an appreciation for the Soulful Sound.

My older brother passed away in 1984, and that's where my passionate affair with this mistress we call Music blossomed. I dove into it head first, I bought my first set of SL1200's(which I still own). I soon had my own DJ Crew with DJ Holiday, Sounds Of The City. I chose the name to reflect our Urban sound beginnings. From that point on, we were DJ'ing pretty regularly, lot's of mobile gigs for private parties and Black and Hispanic Fraternities and a residency @ a local lounge in Paterson, NJ called The First Step. We also had a few guest spots at Scandals in East Orange and a couple of small lounges in NY.

All throughout this musical exploration journey I was clubbing big time, had a chance to see and hear Tony Humphries live @ Club Zanzibar in Newark, Larry Levan @ The Garage, Jellybean @ the Funhouse and David Morales @ 1018.

In 1985 I decided to make Music a bigger part of my life and attended Center For the Media Arts, graduating with a Certificate in Recording Engineering. Soon after, I had my first internship @ Chelsea Recording on 42nd St, which was subsequently bought by the Hit Factory Studio. I worked @ Clinton Recording in Manhattan and Bioya Recording in Paterson NJ, where I recorded my first record with vocalist Charles Spann from Newark. Fast forward to 1989, my son was born and I had to start making a serious living, so music took a back seat and became a hobby again. Started gigging again in 1995 and have been back into it since.

Music has touched my spirit and gotten me through many trials and tribulations in my life including the loss of my daughter Nina. It has always been there to help me escape many difficulties I was going through and touched my soul where nothing else has. These feelings thoughts and experiences are my motivation for starting this site. I hope you can appreciate it as much as I do. Please join us and help us build our Musical Nirvana together.
